The Department of Islamic History and Culture started its journey in 1993 with MA program. B.A (Hons) program was introduced in 1995 with 30 students. At present Department offers four years B.A. (Hons) undergraduate program and one-year MA graduate program including two years MA program. The course structure encompasses political and cultural history of ancient, medieval and modern period in Afro-Asia and Europe with special emphasis on Muslim Bengal, South Asia, Modern Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia. The department, located on third floor of the West Building, is run by 5 full-time and two guest teachers with about 300 students. It has three class rooms with modern facilities and also has a rich collection of books. Beyond academic activities every year the Department arranges study tour, annual picnic and other sight-seeing programs. To celebrate various national and internal days every year teachers and students jointly played an active role. According to its capacity the Department also offers scholarships and awards to the students for their good results.
